There are several good quality cages out there. I happen to like Animal Plastics stuff. But Reptile Basics also makes good cages.

Right now AP is having a sale on 2x4 cages. $165. Thats the cheapest Ive ever seen them. Take a lookie loo:

mine has the drop down doors instead of the sliding glass or swing open doors but i got mine for 125 a piece with lights installed. they're abs plastic cages. ive only seen the sliding glass doors on the more expensive ones and melamine cages but they do look very nice with the sliding glass doors.

Been thinking about picking up some of the 2x4s from animal plastics myself.

I think you will like them Tosh. Very good quality. And the fact that they are shipped flat you save some $. They go together in a snap. Ive had my big one for going on three years loaded with dirt with monitors doing everything in their power to destroy it and so far it looks as good today as when I got it. Minus the dirt of course :D

Hey V -

Do you have them stacked? I'm going to need to stack two and then put my GTP cage on top of them I'm just worried about possible sagging.

That is very tempting. What are the others out there. When my computer crashed I lost all my links.

I dislike sliding doors, they are a pain in the badunkadunk...prefer drop down or swinging.

That ap one is a deal, I need to figure out if I am building or buying them this summer and with deals like that it will make it hard to not buy them.

I'm with you, Jenea. Our neodeshas are all sliding glass doors and litter gets pushed into the glides and gums them up. Love my drop down doors!

I'm not V, but I DO have two of the T10's stacked, and two more coming next week. They don't sag with other T10's stacked on them, but I would imagine that if you load the front center up with weight they will. You might be ok if you keep the other cage to one side so that the back and side wall is supporting most of the weight.

Thanks Chris -- right now I have one 2x2 cube for the GTP -- but hoping to add another GTP and 2x2 cube sometime this year. Might be able find appropriate sized board to distribute weight more evenly across the top. :yessir:

See my problem with the drop down doors are I want set it on a few cylinder blocks and my boa cage I have now on top of that. Well the doors will hit the floor on the drop down doors. You guys do bring up a good point with the doors getting stuff in them tracks. I use news paper so i don't think that would matter. The other ones are cheaper. Hmmmm

What to buy what yo buy.

I am really loving the AP one. Would it be easy to install a radiant heat panel in them. Or if you was going to keep a boa in it would you go with the belly heat.
I got a radaint heat panel in a home made cage 2x4 cage now. I keep telling the old lady its for the one down stairs but there is nothing wrong with it so Im going to add a new boa. LOL

I have an AP T10 now...It's a good cage...with sliding doors if I had to do it again...I'd go dropping instead....No matter what cage I get I will go dropping doors...To it's cheaper without the sliding glass.

I'm waiting on a another cage to come in less then 3 weeks from this outfit....http://www.constrictorsnw.com/

The pro with this cage is no need for lighting inside the cage or at all really as the light is able to go through the plastic so they say....With Heat and put together and shipped it was $266 even less per cage if you get a stack of 5...Like $220 each I think then....The cage body is guarantee for life. Hot welded together so no leaks....I have one on the way if I like my plans are for a stack of 5 next.

I am waiting to see your review of Ed's cages John, they look top notch and I would like the light ones for a few of my animals.

Thing I like about the sliding doors (besides they look nicer and you don't need to have the extra room for the door to swing) is that when you got a lunger (one who lunges at you when you open the door esp. at feeding time) you can minimize your exposure. Yea gunk gets pushed into the track but the track from our GTP cage came unglued so I can just pop it out and dump the substrate back into the cage and wash it down in the sink if needed. Before this occurrence I was hitting it with the compressed air and it cleaned it out pretty good. :wamma:

I agree the sliding doors are nice looking and for some people it may be the perfect thing.....I use the vacum cleaner on my tracks to clean them

I wonder what a lot of your big snake breeders perfer? As to door types and all.....Maybe that would be a good poll sometime?

I will bug him after next week to see where things are at? If I hear nothing.... Ed is really a nice guy and fast e-mail response and very helpful.

5 weeks from when I ordered it...so it should be here by the 17th of this month.... I got marked down. It's good to drop these cage guys a line every now and then....I think :lol:

That should do the trick for you right there. Another possibility is you can actually order the T10's with a divider, basically turning it into a pair of 2x2's. I'm not sure how their divider works specifically, but I actually made my own out of lexan, painted it black, and siliconed it in.

I started out using cypress mulch in both of my cages. At this point I've only got mulch in the cage with the boa, and newspaper in with the STP's. I would get a little mulch in the tracks here and there, but nothing major. To be honest, it was little enough that a quick blow with my breath was enough to clear it out.

It's made out of plastic, so it's about as easy to screw into as wood. I've also talked to people who had a heat panel shipped right to AP and they installed it for them even.

That's my thoughts exactly! Every animal that I'm keeping in them currently or will be soon are larger snakes that get overly excited at feeding time. I can just open the glass far enough to get the rat in with the tongs and wave it around until they notice it. Before I moved them into there I would almost always end up having to wait for them to eat because they'd lunge out of the tub and get a coil or two under the lip of the tub, making them pretty much immovable until they were done constricting.

Great help here guys. I seen someone saying something about leaking. That bring up a good question with the AP cages. Do they leak since they have to be put together when the boa unrinates in the cracks.

They include a tube of silicone to seal the edges. I would put a bead on the edges before you put them together and let it squeeze out. Then Id "caulk" the insides with the silicone.

As an FYI I keep monitors in one. I pour gallons of water in there and no leaks. Its a very tight fit. Oh, and I never bothered to seal it :D

Tosh I dont stack them. But I think you hit the nail on the head. If you distribute the weight you should be fine. These cages are very strong.

I never sealed my AP cage either with the silicone they sent along and I haven't had any leaks either.
