Ok lets hear some stories..

I got nailed by a rattlesnake while camping/hiking in Arizona about 20 years ago. The snake hit me and literally removed enough skin for it to barely bleed. We didnt know if it injected or not, but it was not like we could do anything about it considering we were a good 15-20 miles in the back country on the Navajo Reservation.

So after about 15 minutes or so of talking about what we should do I said F it and just went on about our trip. If I knew then what I know now I would have known that I wasnt envenomated, but back then it was an interesting couple of hours wondering if I was or not.

Ok, so there I was wrestling a 18 ft King Cobra in India. After 54 hours of struggle, I finally pinned her to the ground, and she stopped resisting, I went to bag her up and then boom she flew out of the bag and injected her 4" long fangs right into my jugular vein. The poison flooded into my body at an alarming rate. I finished bagging the snake, and then stood up, screamed really loud and willed the venom out of my body. It drained out of my neck, I caught it in a cup, and then drank it, to this day I still possess the ability to shoot venom out of my eyes up to a distance of 36 miles.

True story.

ive been tagged twice copperheads both times...

First time was after a night of skinnydipping...one the "healthier" girls was scared to walk thru the woods....so I got volunteered to piggyback her "healthy" backside out of the woods....well about halfway back to the car I feel a lil something sting me in my ankle, said ouch and went on my merry way...thought i had stepped on a bee or something...Not alot of Bees flying around at 3 am but didnt give it a second thought, well We got back home and its still stingy and itchy so i figure the stinger is still in my leg so i go to dig it out and thats when found i had a nice Pair of puncture marks LOL wasnt bad tho kinda made me feel like a had the flu for a few days and the wound itched like crazy and took a few months to heal but a minor irritant more than anything else

But the 2nd bite...that was something else!!!

I got stuck having to do some weedeating on a jobsite i was working on..Im all kinds of mad and grumpy cause i dont lke doing yardwork even at my own house LOL

well im blasting thru some nice knee high weeds and i see a flash down between my feet...I thought i had hit a stick or something then i seee it again and i look down and ive this pretty lil snake attached to my boot and my leg Just flailing away!!!

it almost scared the crap out of me literally...well I put a nice stomp down and disengaged it from my leg... yeah i know...you shouldnt kill snakes...but when one surprises ya like that and its attached...its reflex..couldnt really help it

well I go and showed it to the guy i was working for and hes TERRIFIED of snakes...even dead ones i came to find out, well hes all freaking out telling me to go to the hospital and of course I dont...because..well im a guy...and we dont do hospitals LOL but i didnt wanna do any more weed whacking so I get to use being snake bit as a mighty fine excuse to get out of it LOL

So I decided i wanted supper before i go home for the night so I brush off all the grass off my legs and head to Fazolis for a nice dinner.Well as im standing in line waiting to get some Baked Ziti and all the free breadsticks I can eat I finally understood the power of venom...the first wave of pain and nausea hit me so hard that i actually fell over and was laying in ythe floor doubled up in a ball ,I dont think a horse kicking me in the stomach could have hurt any worse, that passed pretty quick so I decided home and bed would be a better option than puking all over Fazzolis dining room so I hopped in my truck and away i went..

it was about a 20 mile drive for me to get home from where i was and that trip took a little over 2 hours to make becuase every few minutes a new wave of pain would hit and i would have to pull over and sit there while it passed...I barely remember actually gettin back to the house and My parents filled me in on the rest of the week because still to this day i have NO recollection of anything that happened from monday til early sunday morning. They let me know what an angel i was being everytime they mentioned taking me to the hospital LOL and that i ran a fever of 104 for almost the entire week. The first memory i have is of of tires screaching out in front of my house as someone wrapped thier car around the telephone pole outside tryin to avoid running over a racoon....kill the vermin i say!!
But thats another story unto itself LOL

I did get better tho but it took a LONG time til i was ever back to full strength,I was say 6 months easily before i could work for more than a few hours with out being totally exhausted and I learned that the next time i get bit by something like that...IM going Straight to the ER!!!

I've been tagged by every snake that will bite in the state of Michigan at one time or another. You gotta remember, I've been chasin' these things since about 1957. Put me at about seven years old LOL, and you KNOW how crazy a seven year old boy can be.

Warning, this could be a long one

.........All that being said, the scariest one was from a Massasauga Rattlesnake when I was 17. I was out in the early spring of ' 67 :)hoping to find anything out sunning and saw a six foot blue racer and took chase. It ducked into a hole and of course I started digging him out of there. about 15 inches down the hole widened enough for me to get my hand in there and about then I realized it was a hibernation den. I was pulling out garters and ribbon snakes, water snakes, all kindsa stuff, and dropping them in a pillow case I had along for just that occaison LOL.

I reached in and grabbed something by the head and it bit me. I looked up at my brother and told him I'd been bitten and of course he just grinned about it. I pulled all of two and a half foot of Massasauga out of the hole and threw it on the ground. My brother killed it, I know NOT the nice thing to do. Like shrap I had no idea if I'd been envenomated or not. That long ago it was standard procedure to cut the puncture wounds to bleed the venom out. Didn't have a knife, just a zippo lighter so I proceeded to pinch the spot enough to cause some bleeding and sucked on the wound all the way home which by the way, was a good 45 minute walk. By the time we got home I realized I was in no danger but thought I should let my mom know to at least call the doc. I'm mud up to my waist from runnin' in the swamps all day, I walk in the house and find mom sleeping on the couch. I says " Mom I just got rattlesnake bit," and she came two feet off the couch landed flat footed and screamed, "GIT THEM DAMNED MUDDY BOOTS OFF MY CARPET!!"

I did, she called the doc and I'm still around to tell the story. Y'all really shouldn't get an old guy reminiscing(sp) like this:greenman:

I've never been bitten by a hot but I was tubing a Mojave Rattler for a friend a couple years ago to check the sex since he needed a female to go with his male and as I was running her up the tube I noticed she was getting a little too far up and when I went to slide her back she flexed and shot out the other end. My natural response was to grab her as I didn't want her to hit the floor and as I did she landed in my hands and slowly slid out onto the floor. I said my Amens and Hail Mary's and finished the job. To this day I let any venomous snakes that fall hit the ground and then pick them up, that was just too close of a call.

I did have a buddy get bit by a Broadband Copperhead a couple years ago and he almost lost his life. He actually went septic in the hospital and the doctors weren't sure if he was going to make it. He told me he didn't want to make the list as the first person to die from a Copperhead bite in the US. He responded so violently due to an allergic reaction to the venom.

Never been bit by a hot, and not sure I would survive. I am allergic to horses, and most likely sheep as well, so the antivenom might kill me before the venom does...some great stories though.

warning.....a $75 snake is not worth $900 in hospital bills without anti-venom.....

i think super bowl sunday made four years since it happened.... a friend of mine that works at the local zoo with their snakes came over to hang out and shoot the sh#t....i had purchased a trio of sidewinders approximatly three months prior and couldn't get them to feed....one had just pasted and the last two were getting skinny, so i wanted to force feed them.... i really like sidewinders and didn't want to lose them....i got the male out, pinned him, and fed him a fuzzy, no problem.... i get the female out, put her on the table, pin her, then POW....she takes one fang moves it over to the side, bites down sending the tip of the fang into my finger tip....how deep i don't know....i immediatly drop her and grab my finger...my buddy says " you been bite?"...i squeeze and blood comes out....he says " we're goin to the hospital"...i say "what if it's dry, i didn't see any yellow fluid"...he says he don't care lets go...i put the snake up and we go to the hospital.....first 10 to 15 minutes no pain, then it went from none to ten in seconds...pure fire....i told him at that moment, i was glad we were only minutes from the hospital....my hand swelled, but not much past my wrist...no anti-venom, just stuff to kill the pain and make me sleep.... my under arm hurt for a couple weeks(lipnodes) and got lucky, my finger healed in a way that i didn't loose the tip....hot and cold sensations were extreme for months.....

i don't pin snakes as a rule, for i feel it stresses them and i have seen snakes squeezed to death..... plus my snakes are ones i'd like to have around for as long as their natural lives....this is one of the rare occasions i have ever pinned a venomous.... just because you keep or maintain hot snakes does not mean you have to touch them(at least not the hot end).....i always tell people having a hot snake is similar to having fish in an aquarium...they are for observing not touching..... lion fish are highly venomous yet lots of people keep them and they are in almost every pet store.....

I got bite by a Western Pygmy. It is funny how they don't like you reaching into their cage! He got me on the middle finger of the right hand. Hurt like heck. I decided to just ride it out instead of going to the hospital. My hand swelled up to about 2 times its normal size, I went into convulsions about 2 hours after the bite, after that I felt fine. The next day the glands under my right arm were swollen and sore. Took about a week to get back to normal.

Man this happened about 14 years ago. So I don't have any pictures. I think I still have the note book around somewhere that I took notes about my reactions in. I did not go to the hospital because I had done alot of reading about the venom yield and toxicity of the snake so I did not feel I was in danger of dying. Not the smartest thing I have ever done, and would not recommend it!
