One of the best shows ever. Jim is hardcore and tells it like it is. And he's a fountain of information.

He's one guy Id definitely like to see come back for a part II. Wild stuff.

I believe the quote was "Steve Irwin is the Harlem Globetrotters of herpetology".

Hmmm...

Here's my take on it. And Ill say right out I was and am an Irwin fan.

Yes, he was flamboyant. He was a showman. Yes, he took crazy chances. Yes, sometimes he disturbed the animals and stressed them out in order to get a good shot. And maybe not all the information he gave was 100% accurate.

Perhaps by his example he encouraged people to run around grabbing rattlesnakes and tackling crocodiles. But that falls under a different category in my opinion. Thats like blaming Marilyn Manson for a high school shooting. If someone watches Steve Irwin and goes out, grabs a snake and gets bit can you REALLY blame Irwin for that?

On the good side. He brought reptiles to a whole new audience. My mother, who detests anything that isnt furry and answers to "Fifi" used to watch his show with me on occasion and marvel at the animals. He was passionate. He moved people, he got their attention and he got them interested. Thanks to him a lot of people now think crocs are cool and would like to have them around. He got people interested in conservation. I believe overall he was a positive influence on the hobby and reptiles in general.

Plus he got bit on the nose by a bearded dragon. Cool. He dedicated his life to these animals.

I liked him. I miss him. Just my opinion I know others wont agree and thats just fine. I also realize he was not loved by the scientific community and the "real" herpetologists. But he was tireless. He risked his life to show off these animals as best he could. And he took chances. And as we all know he took one too many. Strange that he was brought down by a stingray and not a croc. I believe he said in an interview that he cant allow himself to be taken out by a croc because too many people would say I told you so! Well, he kept that promise.

He was fun to watch. I dug the accent, the catch phrases, the excitement he generated.

Just my opinion. Take it as you will.

You will not get an argument from me thats for damn sure. Irwin did what needed to be done in order for it to be mainstreamed on network tv.. Amen to him for all that he did and continues to do even in passing for this industry. We owe him much credit

Rip mate..

I missed the show but caught it tonight I had a quick question about the people who inject venom into therselves. He was talking about a horse only living 4 years what about Bill Haast he's 94 years old and still injecting?
