Whats the youngest you have heard of producing. Im looking around and the site looks great.

18month old females will breed but it seems to be in about the 20% range. From my limited experience it seems the younger females have a better chance at producing if they have the extra weight.
On the other hand older females can produce at smaller weights. This year my pied female at 900grams dropped 4 eggs ...:)

One girl is 1690 grams and the other is 1540. They where born on 5/16/07. They never miss a meal.

I forget who it was But I saw a pic of a 4 year old female that at 800 grams gave 4-5 eggs.
I think you can breed them that young but personally whats the hurry. If I have an honest 1500 gram girl that's 18 months old I'll hold off breeding her till the next year when she 30 months old and 2500-3000 grams I got 10-11 eggs out of both my 3-4 year old girls that were 2500+ grams this year.

Would they not beable to lay 10 egss next year If I breed them this year?
I've had 1600 gram 18 month old girls give me clutches of 6 and I've had 4 year old 1100 gram girls give me clutches of 6...My average clutch size for the 18 month females that I've actually had produce is 5...I'd say I'm about 40% successful with young girls...If their mature you'll get eggs - If not you won't...

Bingo. I don't think there has been any study done on the relation of number of eggs to age/weight. Is it possible that an 18 month old girl can lay 10 eggs? I'm sure it is. I don't have the experiance to say that with out a doubt age and weight play a role in number of eggs produced

I breed young females every year. They have to have what it takes though. Just like my small males.
1) Never let them go even a week without feeding.(unless you know she is already gravid)
2) They have to have that look about them. (Meaning she would nail you any chance she gets, But never even strikes at you Look) This just shows me they have the confidence?
3) Is all on you.. You have to make sure your ready to yank them out of the breeding program if you notice #1-2 have changed..
Follow that and they should be fine.
11 month old 1200-1300g. girls will amase you sometimes with what they can do. And sofar mine are producing year after year with more eggs each season.
The smallest I have had lay was this year at 1050 and gave me four perfect eggs! She is already past what se weighed before last time.....

That is so right on. They give me that look every time I open there cage. They never have missed a meal since they where born. I going to give them a few more weeks of feeding or more then try them. I did notice my smaller girl wraped around her dish the other day.
