I don't have that problem. My nicer half has her own projects and critters so the only thing we have to discuss is room & money to pay for it unless we're trading something.

The spouse was costing more than the reptiles so I got rid of the spouse.

No wonder the tension! :) I know something you can do with a little of the extra money......

My wife has zero interest in my hobby at all. I fund my hobby completely with money i make on the side doing freelance work. My only problem is that she resents the fact that I have a way to make extra money to spend, and she doesn't.

There are times that I spend a lot of money on my hobby, she knows it, and I think she wishes she could as well.

I go on the theory that it's easier to get forgiveness than permission and it's been working pretty well for me so far.

For example...we were at a show and I'd never seen a pastel BP before. Saw one, fell in love, and told Jeff I had to have it. LOL I think he ran to the car and then sped to the ATM to get cash (since we were not there to buy snakes).

The BP's still 'mine' I just let Jeff take care of him. :D

She doesnt mind the lizards. She DETESTS the roaches but she tolerates them as Ive explained I need them. She insists on no critters on the first floor (my rooms are on the second) which I oblige.

But Im on double secret snake probation. She doesnt want snakes in the house. I would like a few. Im workin' on that.

If Im not asked I dont tell and she gets her share of spemding money!
Also once you have a room full you can add a few and you cant tell:)
When people ask how many I have in the collection the connon response is A FEW!

I don't justify it, I just say please....and then maybe slightly alter the price a little. My husband is great even though he's not really into the hobby he's pretty supportive. :D

My wife actually likes them and even helps with feedings. But she dosen't pay close enough attention to sneek a new one in here or there. Once your over fifty they don't have a clue.:D

Bingo.... And when she does question an animal, " I got it on trade hunny for that one, you know?" Only part i tend to hide anymore is the price I pay for some animals... instead of $3,500, i paid $350....

Easy, I don't actually buy the animals, I barter for them. It also helps that my better 1/2 likes snakes too.

Luckily, my wife likes all the snakes as much as I do. She has made me buy almost as many as I have bought on my own. She keeps saying no more, but then when we go to a show, or she sees something nice on KS, she just has to have it. Now I just show her what I want and she usually starts rationalizing buying it to me. Works out pretty well.
