View Full Version : Do you wash your snakes after they lay Baltimore_Balls 03-19-2009, 08:40 AM I just wanted to know how many people do this. After she laid I cleaned her tub then I washed her with baby shampoo, returned her to her tub, and offered her food. To my suprise she ate the same day she laid Wild Bill 03-19-2009, 09:00 AM Yep, they get cleaned up here. It really helps them to get back on feed right away. IF you don't wash the scent of the eggs off the mother it seems it takes them a little longer to come back on feed. :yessir: FloridaHogs 03-19-2009, 09:04 AM Yup, and I do not just clean the tub, but switch it out with a spare tub. Sometimes I even put them on a different shelf in the rack..... Baltimore_Balls 03-19-2009, 09:13 AM I only asked because when I tell local people that I washed them with soap they act like I'm nuts. Wild Bill 03-19-2009, 09:19 AM I only asked because when I tell local people that I washed them with soap they act like I'm nuts. Nope, not crazy. If I remember right, I think it is even in the Sutherlands DVD. They used dish detergent, I think. You just have to remember to keep it away from there head. :yessir: Baltimore_Balls 03-19-2009, 09:27 AM I bought baby shampoo didnt want to use the dish soap. They were right no more tears not one of them cried. Drew87 03-19-2009, 09:27 AM Thanks for the info everyone. :yessir: Damian667 03-19-2009, 10:11 AM I tried both ways last year just out of curioustity. The ones I wiped down with a warm towel and changed their bedding ate within 2 weeks. The others took over a month to go back on food. Larry 03-19-2009, 10:23 AM Washing the eggs smell off and cleaning the tub will get them back on feed almost immediately. With me I consider it a must if you're looking to breed the same female multi years in a row... Tosha 03-19-2009, 12:00 PM I wash them down with Dawn (as they do in the Southerland video) and then disinfect their tubs and put in new substrate and put their hides back in and they pretty much all eat on the next feeding day (even if feeding day is the same night they lay). jayefbe 03-19-2009, 03:11 PM I bought baby shampoo didnt want to use the dish soap. They were right no more tears not one of them cried. Touche, buddy.
