ChristianC 03-30-2009, 06:37 PM This is tough! Very hard decision. All are very good. I think 3, 8, and 13 do it for me. Can't i vote for all 3? ;)

JasonGonzalez 03-30-2009, 07:26 PM Had to go with 3. Great pic!

FloridaHogs 03-30-2009, 10:13 PM See, I am drawn to the photo quality more than just the animal in it.....is it just me, or are others the same?
Sputnik 03-30-2009, 10:15 PM See, I am drawn to the photo quality more than just the animal in it.....is it just me, or are others the same?
I try to find an equal balance between the subject and the shot quality....
Lots of good lookin pics everybody -
147BOAS 03-31-2009, 12:27 AM #3 got my vote
JChandler 03-31-2009, 07:16 AM I voted for a boa....:wamma:
Tosha 03-31-2009, 10:41 AM See, I am drawn to the photo quality more than just the animal in it.....is it just me, or are others the same?
I thought Morph of the month was supposed to be about the animal not the photo quality. Had I known it was a photo contest I wouldn't have bothered.
Larry 03-31-2009, 10:49 AM Damn I didn't get 1 vote...:(
JasonGonzalez 03-31-2009, 11:19 AM I thought Morph of the month was supposed to be about the animal not the photo quality. Had I known it was a photo contest I wouldn't have bothered.
That's a great point. My original vote was based on the photo quality and not the animal. #3 is a GREAT picture, but not what I would consider the best MORPH up there. If it's a MORPH of the Month contest, I think the animal should win, not the photographer.
Is there any way I can retract my vote and vote again? If I had it to do over, I'd pick the LA or the Pied as the best morph.
.
beclende 03-31-2009, 11:21 AM Number three all the way.....great shot of a cool animal! Everyone's stuff looks really good, congrats to everyone on some great entries:cheers:
Damn I didn't get 1 vote...:(
Sometimes ya gotta take the good with the bad Bro :D
147BOAS 03-31-2009, 01:30 PM Damn I didn't get 1 vote...:(

JOHNS6068 03-31-2009, 01:33 PM Damn I didn't get 1 vote...:(
Boss send him to me...one should not own a snake as such and not get a vote for it
Jaymz 03-31-2009, 02:43 PM I thought Morph of the month was supposed to be about the animal not the photo quality. Had I known it was a photo contest I wouldn't have bothered.
I agree. I voted for the morph not the most expensive camera
Chico_Reptiles 03-31-2009, 02:59 PM 12 gets my vote! Not that it matters now. I am partial to purple albinos
Gotta love the just starting to shed shot! Lot's of good stuff though!
WinstonHS 03-31-2009, 04:38 PM Wait, are we voting on what photo we like or what morph we like?
NoahHart 03-31-2009, 04:49 PM Its called "Morph of the Month" not "Photo of the Month". I vote for the morph I like best but the pic does play a role in it. If its a crappy pic that might make a dif for me. Just my opinion.
Tosha 03-31-2009, 05:27 PM Damn I didn't get 1 vote...:(
I voted for you Larry :yessir:
JOHNS6068 03-31-2009, 05:49 PM Well it is called but "Morph of the month" but I have yet to see any non morph reptile pic's thrown out because they weren't a morph....I say if you can post a picture of a normal reptile and kick a$$ against any of these sweet looking morphs on here.....Then your picture deserves to be posted for a month...:yessir:
I have been voting for what stands out to me and not that it is a morph or not.

I dont think thats the point really. I think the issue is if the quality of the pic has something to do with it.

oh ok sorry then :)
NoahHart 03-31-2009, 05:53 PM oh ok sorry then :)
No worries.:cheers::cheers:
FloridaHogs 03-31-2009, 06:12 PM I was just saying that the composition and quality of the photo make a big difference to me. If you had two of the same morph, and say one was a little better in appearence, but in a out of focus photo vs one that was not quite as nice, but in an awesome photo....I would vote for the better photo. Why, because it captures my eye. I find it hard to really focus on the animal in a poor photo because the technicalities distract me so much. My photo was taken with a point and shoot camera....you do not have to have expensive to get a good pic. I was just asking the question because I was wondering what everyone else looked at. I vote for what really catches my eye, what I am drawn to, and photo quality plays a big part in that.....
Tosha 03-31-2009, 06:44 PM People really do seem to be voting for the best picture not based on a kick ass animal. I mean look how many submissions we have over the weeks where you really can't even see the snake (or lizard) -- and I don't mean to offed anyone but those nose shots -- they are cool, nicely focused, well balanced in the frame, etc. -- but where is the snake? If it's going to be a photo contest -- well that's fine. The same 5 people can keep winning the darn thing and the rest of us can scavenger hunt. :yessir:

I do agree that if you cant see the whole animal it defeats the purpose for me.

Head shots????? Just wait till you see my entry next month :lmao:
FloridaHogs 03-31-2009, 09:51 PM None of my pics have won, and not all that have won have been exceptional pics. So it really hasn't all been photo quality. That is why I was asking what criteria people use in choosing.
Sputnik 03-31-2009, 10:10 PM Head shots????? Just wait till you see my entry next month :lmao:
Nothing wrong with head shots, this is just a friendly contest.... I don't want people thinking they better not post a head shot because you can't see the whole snake.... or because they think there is some kinda standard or protocol they must meet.... put your best shot forward. Last thing I want is people's photographic creativity being stifled. If you don't like the shot you see, don't vote for it, if you do.... give it the thumbs up!

But that's just it -- shouldn't it be about the animal not the shot?

Well said hon
beclende 03-31-2009, 10:33 PM But that's just it -- shouldn't it be about the animal not the shot?
I think there has to be a balance between the two.......honestly if someone could really make me feel like a nice normal was sitting right in front of me with their photo they would probably get my vote......
Sputnik 03-31-2009, 10:47 PM But that's just it -- shouldn't it be about the animal not the shot?
For me it's a bit of both! :yessir:
Melanie 03-31-2009, 10:49 PM For me it's a bit of both! :yessir:
I agree. Even if I saw the most beautiful snake, I wouldn't vote for it if it wasn't in focus. It has to be visually pleasing for me.
ChristianC 03-31-2009, 10:50 PM I have been voting for my favorite "Morph Photo". First i look at the animal and then factor in the photo as a whole. Composition, lighting, and yes quality (focus, clarity, depth of field) are things that I personally look for in any nice photo. An expensive camera will help you get the quaility part however you can take amazing photos with very inexpensive cameras these days. Now with that said someone with a super hot morph may post a crappy photo of their animal and I may vote for it, but personally it would have to be a jaw dropping morph to beat out another nice morph in a nice photo. I have some really cool photos of some of my surinames i would love to show but they ain't Morphs  so those will have to wait for the locality photo of the month contest ;) IMO, vote for what'cha like :D
Tosha 03-31-2009, 11:37 PM Ok -- I guess the overwhelming majority feel that the contest should be a photo contest.
Cool Beans will vote appropriately for now on.
But for what it's worth -- in true bush league spirit - I'd rather have an out of focus poorly lit lavender albino sitting in my collection.
anendeloflorien 04-01-2009, 12:16 AM Got mine in finally :D Tough one this month for sure! I had to go with 14, I can't place the morph but it's freaking beautiful whatever it is.

I was joking about the head shots in light of what Tosha said  I couldn't agree more with what ya said...just being funny that's all...:greenman:

It is just spring fever talking...crazy people vote for whatever you want for whatever reason you want, if you want we can do a contest where people can critique photos....now that would be hilarious

Jaymz 04-02-2009, 01:15 AM Then why call it Morph Of The Month? Call it Reptile Photo Of The Month and there would be no confusion.

Maybe we should just scrap it all together to stop all the trivial bitching over a "fun" contest...
