Was wondering last night if mice and rats are considered native or non native? If they are non native....then how will we feed the animals we still have?

View Full Version : Just wondering... FloridaHogs 04-18-2009, 12:16 PM Was wondering last night if mice and rats are considered native or non native? If they are non native....then how will we feed the animals we still have? rocko 04-18-2009, 01:48 PM I was wondering this too. So many people would be affected by this bill even rodent breeders. Then the people that supply the rodent breeder food and bedding its just nuts! FloridaHogs 04-18-2009, 01:49 PM I am wondering if all our animals would starve while we wait on the "approved" list if it passes. rocko 04-18-2009, 02:53 PM I am wondering if all our animals would starve while we wait on the "approved" list if it passes. I don't think that it is for mice and rats. But then again they might be on it. Mrs. Sputnik 04-18-2009, 03:12 PM Why I am glad we breed our own rodents FloridaHogs 04-18-2009, 03:13 PM But if they are "non native" you won't be able to (legally). That is my question I guess. Damnitbonnie 04-19-2009, 09:44 AM I'll bet the african soft ones will be included. Jeana, I'll send you a pair of "natives" from my garage if you want. wolfyhound 04-19-2009, 09:46 AM Almost all rats and mice are non-native, and thus would be illegil to breed or sell. There are a couple species of mouse, and at least one endangered species of rat(wood rat down in south florida?) that I can think of this early on a sunday. Those are not the ones we typically breed though. FloridaHogs 04-19-2009, 10:03 AM So if this goes thru...our animals will have no food once it runs out? Quig 04-19-2009, 10:11 AM Jeana, I'll send you a pair of "natives" from my garage if you want. Bonnie, I think DE-troit rats get to big to feed anything smaller than a burm :lmao::lmao: Tosha 04-19-2009, 10:15 AM If this goes through and if feeders aren't added to the list or it takes 2 years to get them on the list then yes it will be illegal to feed our illegal pets. Of course if you had to rabbit pups and pinks will feed a variety of snakes and lizards  wolfyhound 04-19-2009, 03:43 PM Rabbits!!! THANK YOU TOSHA!! I was really a little concerned(read: freaky scared) about the rat/mouse problem. At least I can think there is SOMETHING I could legally breed to feed my snakes. Still hoping it won't go through, and all that, but my spirit restsbetter without having to worry that I'll have to chose between illegil raising of animals or starving snakes. |
