What do you guys think...for those of you that have used both which lasts longer a bag of dog food or a bag of lab block?

A lot of that depends on peak production and how complete the feed is. Dog food differs so they may eat more of it in comparison to lab block to get what they need to keep production up. If the dog food is more nutrionally complete , then the major surge on food should only be during peak production, same as with the lab block.

We went through more dog food due to waste because of the caging, but with the right caging I'm sure it is pretty close.

I think it depends on the protein level of the foods as well your cage set up. Top feeding through wire top save food.

It certainly does, but I have had ASF's get bored and just chew the lab block into dust because they felt like it.... LOL

The ASF's have a hell of a bite.... lol

I have about 6 or 7 mice living with a group of breeder ASF's.... not sure how they got in with the ASF's, but they all get along just fine.... LOL

The ones that took up lab block demolition for a sport are no longer around..... fed off for obvious reasons.

I feed em to corns, balls, womas, kings.... whoever wants to eat them.

I have used both and side by side my rats seem to like the lab diet better than the dog food. The ASF's seem to bite or eat anything they can get their teeth on. I put a little wheel in with them and it keeps them busy now. Amazing how long they can run on a tiny wheel.

When I use dog food, a lot of it get's wasted because it falls through the mesh. I don't think they eat more of it though.

I haven't ever used dog food, just lab block.. I just wanted to comment on the ASF's. Man, those little bastards are mean. I only kept my colony till their first litters.. I had gotten bit a bunch of times before they had their babies, one of the males escaped and set up shop in a shoe closet.. When I saw him and went to catch him, the little **** bit my thumb so hard he hit bone. That was the end of that experiment. All the babies and the breeders went into the freezer. Just regular rats for me, now. Those ASF's are vicous.

Well since I have been forced to feed dog food to the rats recently (our local supplier forgot to order the rodent block for us):machinegun:....I know for a fact that they eat more dog food than rodent block. And the rats and mouse cages smell much worse then they do when I am feeding everyone rodent block.

I believe they eat more of it. It sure does seem like it goes faster at least for me.
