Larry, BT if this doesn't seem like the right section please move it....

Okay we all know how important a decent all around camera is and I am shopping around for what I want now. I have a fuji finepix something or another now with over 10K pictures taken and it still works but either it is going bad or I am getting worse. Plus it doesn't capture the stuff I want it to....

So what kind of cameras are you using?

I don't care about the user friendly part, if it's not but takes bad ass pics then I will make that compromise.

Right now I am looking really hard at the rebels with the zoom lens and some other stuff.

Dude, I can make two suggestions. If you are looking for a nice camera at a great bargain you should check out the Olympus E-510. It's a 10 megapixel DSLR that you can get in a kit with a 14-42 mm lens and a 40-150 mm lens for around $650. This is the camera I have and it didn't break the bank. You can see samples of the photos I have taken on my flickr page located here. Copy and paste link into browser.

My second suggestion is the Nikon D80. I know a couple of people that have this camera. One guy I shoot with fairly regularly, and it does an amazing job. It's a little more coin. The camera with a single lens is about $900 but if I had the money that is the camera I would have.

I just went back to bhphotovideo.com where I bought my E-510 and they lowered the price a little to $588 with two lenses. And it has a 5 start rating with 42 reviews. Good luck on your search.

I like the Nikons...If I were going to spend the jack - I'd get the Nikon D80...I use the D40 and I believe I paid under $500...I just need a speed light and I'd be set for what I want to accomplish...

I think I paid around $250 - $300 for mine Jeff.... Kodak DX6490..... it's nothing flash, but does decent pics. I think the latest models are way better, but no idea what the price is....

I use a Nikon D80 with a 105 macro lens and a 28-300 zoom lens. I have no complaints. The camera has unlimited potential that I haven't tapped into yet. I also use a battery grip. I can go in the field for a weekend and take up to 1000 pics without changing batteries or memory card.

Nikons are sweet, just still need to go out and play with some I guess. I want the fancy camera to take the pain in the ass stuff like corns, need that super shutter speed. Cheapest snakes I own need the best camera....not that it won't be worn out using it on the other stuff to.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, keep em coming.

Then you won't want what I have.... the time in between waiting from taking a pic to waiting for the camera to be ready to take another can be frustrating as hell!

No that's my main bitch with my fuji now, take the pic with the flash covered so it will stabilize the photo somewhat because I shake like I just woke up from a 3 day bender and need some coffee....then take the pic and wait for a good 20 seconds until it is ready to go again.

It's like a 5 second wait on mine, but that's still no good with colubrids!

Drink some coffee, you'll feel better! :lmao:

All I use for all of my pictures is just a Sony Cybershot 7.2mp

Just a simple point and shoot but it gets the job done just fine for us! no need to post a pic to show you an example as I keep it pretty picture *****-ific as it is!! :lmao:

Going on the hunt next weekend if I don't work...going to play with alot of the point and shoot ones first to see if any will fit the bill...

I may even end up with another fuji since it has been good to me...LOL

Thanks for the input!

Hey Best of luck!

We were going to be getting a new SLR camera but honestly the sony cybershot we have works so well... it's almost kinda pointless...

Maybe later on... but that extra $500-$800 could buy us another morph or two which we need more!

Let us know what you end up with!

You cannot go wrong with a nikon, however i'm a Canon guy. I already have the investment in the lens. Check out the XTi and the XSi. You can find some good deals on them and they are great. Fully compatible with the canon eos lenses. It's worth a look.

I got the Nikon D40. Best camera I have ever used. The size of the sensor makes the 6 megapixel seem like alot more. Todd
