Rich Zuchowski has announced his retirement.
Yep folks, one of the Main Corn snake breeders has announced his retirement.
Many of us have seen it coming in the last year. He made it an official post today.

Any word on what is going to happen with fauna now that he's retiring?

Right now its still up in the air.

As for the websites I run, as long as they are a positive cash flow for me, and I am not digging into my pocket to pay the server bills, upgrades, repairs, and technical help, then they will continue as usual. I'm hoping that they may even be a positive enough cash flow that they will help with this retirement thing we are going to launch ourselves into. But again, we will just have to see what happens, I guess...

Who?

In the cornsnake world there are the Holy three to cornsnake breeding.

Kathy Love
Don Soderberg
And Rich Zuchowski.

He helped create or Discover many of the morphs we see today and also he owns Cornsnakes.com and Fauna. He was the one who created the BOI.

I know to many of the Ball and Boa industry he isnt really a big name but to the Corn Faction, this is a very big news. It would be like hearing about NERD or BHB closing up shop in the next year or so.

The corn snake community will definitely lose a great breeder. Rich has introduced more new morphs into corns than just about anyone out there. I am sure after 30 years of dealing with thousands of baby corns every year, he is ready to retire!

I wonder how many hes produces in all those years? It would be cool if he recorded it all. Maybe he did.....

Well I posted your question on CS.com and got a response from Rich.. here it is.

Sorry, but I have no idea how many I have produced all total. At one time I had written a bunch of programs to keep track of inventory and religiously kept up with it, but after a while, the workload pushed it far to the bottom of the list in priorities. The least time I added any data to the datebase was in 1995.

I've got just shy of 5,000 eggs incubating right now, and have had as many as maybe 7,000 babies once. Usually I try to hit between 3,000 and 4,000. But trust me, it's no picnic. Many a time I could feel a nervous breakdown nibbling at the edge of my mind when I would stare at the egg incubating containers marked with red dots meaning they had hatched and waiting to be set up. When you see 100 or more containers like that, it pretty much buckles your knees on you at times.
