Very nice shots. Where are these photos taken?

NH/MA/CT/VT/NY. Sorry I can't get more specific than that...not revealing location is part of an agreement that allows us to visit some of these dens in the first place. But they're all New England locale animals, and some of these populations are on the brink of completely dying out. :(

You know, you'd be surprised how shy the timbers up here actually are. It's not as if they're buzzing & striking and acting defensive when we're taking these photos...with the exception of the first pic (a male meandering through tall grass), and the baby on the rock, they're all peacefully coiled yet alert, calmly inspecting us as we calmly inspect them.

We've been able to get pretty close in order to get good pictures, but of course there's a lot of common sense & reading the snake involved. It does, however, help that most of these animals are relatively calm & shy. I certainly wouldn't try it with an atrox!!! ;)

I posted some shots of some timbers I was able to see this year, and you couldn't be more right. Extremely calm just enjoying soaking in the sun, yet obviously keeping an eye on us while we gaze, jaw dropped. They really are amazing creatures. Those melanistic individuals are fantastic.

Those are some killer horridus. Do you keep them at all? I would have a very hard time not keeping some of the rarer finds.

I guarantee the answer is No to that, they are extremely endangered in that area of their range for the very reason you posted and that is why anyone who knows a den area should keep it to themselves. :nono:
