I'm currently housing my snakes in my bedroom where I sleep, and I need to raise the ambient temps in their rubbermaids a little bit, but I don't want to heat my bedroom to 80. I just watched the DVD "All About Boa Constrictors" by Dave and Tracy Barker of VPI and Rich Ihle of Salmonboa.com. In the DVD Rich says he has his flexwatt running 100% and that if he were to shoot the hot side above the heat it would read about 104. I was thinking that the temps were supposed to be between 80-90, but I know Rich is a professional and it is working for him. Do you think that if a adjusted my thermostat a few degrees it would raise the ambients and the cool side a little without harming the snakes? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Justin Morgan

Hi, what are the temperatures currently?

He may run it wide open on his cages, but I don't see it happening in a rack or tub system. Not enough room to get away from the heat if it gets too hot.
Does your snake hug the heat full time, or does it sometimes go lay elsewhere? Do you have heat on them? What about your snakes actions, makes you think they want/need it warmer?

What temp is the hot spot at know and the ambient temp? I keep my boas hot spot in the high 80's and ambient in the high 70's. What size is your heat tape? Maybe try a larger/wider section of heat tape. This will bring up the ambient temp and you won't have to increase the temps. Is it a closed air or open air rack system? If it's an open air system, you could put some insulation(the silver stuff you can buy at Home Depot) on 3 of the sides.
