Rat pinks or pups in the 15 to 25 gram range.

Man they are really cool. Is that a morph? I assume so..

Quig

No, not a morph. They get that blue /grey while going through a shed. Gotta be the most dramatic change I've ever seen.

Looks just like the sunbeams do when they go into shed. They get such a strange ghostly white, and then, a few days later, SHED! :D

Calabar! Awesome. I fell in love with those several years ago but unfortunately I have never come across anyone selling captive bred specimens. Is your wild caught or captive. Have you seen the calabars that are ringers?

Quig

Mine is captive born. Got her from a guy named Scott Miller four years ago, out of Ohio I think. I haven't seen any ringers.

For those of you who own or have owned calabars, at what age do they mature sexually? My female is near 5 years old and this is her first winter for goin' off feed. She's been without now for a bit over a month. Not worried, she's over 600 grams LOL, just curious.

I used to have one several years ago. Very weird snake. They prefer rat pups over mice, a lot of the time.

I love these snakes. So odd and cool. I have kept lots of them. Every single one I have had was a "ringer" in that it had a white splotch on the tail. They use the tail as a battering ram to fight off the mother rodent while consuming the babies in the den. Mine have always been particular eaters and have only wanted live rat fuzzies. A trick I used to do was put the rats in a tupperware with the lid on and a hole in the lid so they felt like they were crawling in a den or burrow. I would think at 5 yours is mature. You rarely see cb Calabars. They are treated just like the balls in that they are captured in the wild and kept until they lay their eggs then the babies are sold. So there are tons of ch and wc adults but not many true cb animals. Yes they are classified as a boa which makes little sense as they lay eggs. All around just an interesting and wonderful snake.

yes they do lay eggs which makes them interesting they are one of 2 egg laying boas - the other being the saharan sand boa... 2 interesting boas in my opinion

Noah, the white spot on the tail isn't technically a ringer. They all have it because it's a part of their defense system. When harrassed or attacked they ball up with their head tucked inside the coils and the tail out and in sight. It is used as a decoy to divert the attention of the attacker from any vital area by wiggling or twitching it while it figures out an escape plan. Many WC Calabars will have scared tails because of this. BTW, mine is a CB :D. I've seen many males WCs for sale lately with a lot of orange coloration, and am considering purchasing one. At 40 bucks plus shipping I don't think I can go wrong. Cybil was a buck and a half.

I believe the jury is still out on whether or not it's classified as a python or a boa. Unless something permanent has been decided in the last couple years . They have similarities of both. Personally I think they should be in a class all their own.

Barney, I've got Saharans also. 2.1. I like the whole "egg laying boa" thing. :D I'm hoping to get eggs from them this season but so far it doesn't look very promising.

Oh I know thats why they have the white spot I just figured thats what the person was referring to when they were talking about the ringers. They jury may still be out but the scientific name classes them as a boa at this point in time. Either way they are very unique.
