Ive been keeping and breeding reptiles for some time now, but this is year is my first attempt trying to breed balls. I was curious how many of you use lay boxes? When I read Kevin's book he seems to suggest using them. However I don't see any lay boxes in pics anywhere. So, how many of you use them, and why do you or why dont you?

my first year breeding i used a "lay hide" with just some slightly damp sphagnum moss and a little bit of eco earth in it for humidty and such. thats exactly where i found her coiled around the eggs when she laid.

I have never used any kind of special lay box with Balls. All I ever do, at most, is mist the substrate on the warm side of the enclosure every couple of days the last two weeks before they lay.

Only got a couple of clutches under the belt at the moment.. But all I've done in the past is just laid down some damp wrungout sphagnum moss the first time around when I knew I was expecting a clutch... The other time we had our female lay on paper towel...

Both clutches were incubated maternally with 100% hatch rate. :)

IMO I don't feel the nest boxes are really necessary but does provide a better chance of them not laying in their water bowl...

I've never used a lay box for any Python...They'll make their own little nest in the cypress mulch...I do make sure it's good and humid though...:yessir:

Never used a lay box either. Like BT said they will make their own nest regardless of what substrate they are on. I have never let one maternally incubate before.......

They lay on the bedding and newspaper here.... used a lay box once and thought it a waste of time personally....

I don't use them. They just lay either on the newspaper, or under.

Last year was my first year - and mine laid on unprinted newspaper - I didn't lose any eggs.
