Just got finished building a new cage for my Barneck Scrub Python. The cage is 4'x4'x2'. She is 9ft long but still loves to be as high as she can. Here are few pics of the building process...

Frame built out of 2x2's. Pre-drilled all of the screw holes to prevent cracking. Takes a while but worth it. Cutting 2x4's to the appropriate size was also considered, but I was able to pick some good looking, straight 2x2's so I went with them.

I used white tile board for the sides, a piece was used on both the inside and out. On the inside I used liquid nails to secure it, I didn't want any screws showing. On the outside pieces I used screws. Original plan was to use the liquid nails for everything, but this way I can easily take the outside sides off if I need to replace the heating device or branches, or if anything gets damaged or scratched. The final side piece was being glued on in this pic.

Forgot to take any pictures after that point, but that's the gist of the cage. Framed the doors out of 2x2's, painted all of the bare wood showing. Inside sealed with silicone. Here's the finished product (water bowl is out being cleaned in this picture):

It's heated by a Radiant Heat Panel, which is controlled by a Herpstat. Total cost was around $360.00, about $200 of that is the Herpstat and RHP.

Closer view of Harriett.

Thanks for looking, am open to any suggestions on how to improve anything!

So what exactly is tile board?

Is that the backer board that you use when you do tile?

Isnt that almost like sheet rock? How waterproof is it?

Patrick, I believe tile board is the water proof boarding they use in bathrooms around the shower and bathtubs.

Nice job on the cage and Harriett looks thrilled with her new home!!!

Can she not push out the bottom of the door to escape?

Yeah that's the stuff. The white side is waterproof, but the edges need to be sealed very well. If any water gets through it can start to bubble up. It doesn't scratch too terribly easy but I probably wouldn't keep anything with claws in a cage built out of it. But combined with the 2x2's it can make for a waterproof and very light cage. I can maneuver it anywhere I want by myself, and two people can very easily lift it. One person could lift it but there's not anywhere to hang on to so it's tough.

The door is stable down there I don't see her pushing it out but I'll probably still put another set of latches down there. I originally was going to put those latches that are on the very top down there, but they were a bit long so I had to put them on top of the doors instead. If nothing else I think it'll look better.

Thanks! She's made the transition to the new cage smoothly, doesn't seem stressed at all. Those are the same branches that were in the old cage so I think that probably helped.
