So I built a 32qt rack, was wondering what numbers you all would put in that.
Im thinkin three females. And 1 male per tub????
Never done colonies before, would i separate females for breed?

Back when I had my leos (last year...lol) I kept them in 1.3 colonies with no issues.
Just watch for any bossy females and it should be fine and if you need to do a particular breeding you can separate them out but otherwise they do good set up like that.

I like to do 1.2 just because I think its easier to keep an eye on everybody. Make sure everyone is getting enough food, easier to keep the cage clean, collect the eggs, make sure no one is being bullied, etc.
Not that 1.3 cant work. Of course it can. Lots of breeders go with 1.3 or even more. Although for us Bushleaguers Id cap it at 1.3 tops.
I keep a trio in a CB70 which translates pretty close to a 41 quart. Just because I like giving them a little more elbow room. The smaller tubs are fine just make sure they have some hides. I like to use stratified hides. Mini Retes stacks if you will, multi level hides. It increases the useable floor space and provides places where they can get away from each other. They seem to like them. Very simple to make. Just need some 1x2s and some very thin plywood or paneling and you're all set.

I'm keeping 1.4 in a 55 gal tank at the recommendation of a reputable breeder. They are all about 25g right now and doing well together. We do keep a good eye on them and make sure everyone is eating/shedding proper. I'll let you know how it goes.
The only problem will be in knowing what baby came from what mother as I have a diverse group of genes in there. I think I'll know the super snows right away though.

Well thats plenty big so you most likely wont have too many problems. Especially if you have lots of hides in there.
I mean it really depends on what you observe. I havent had any gecko battles yet but Ive kept other lizards where fights have broke out. You really dont know whats gonna happen. I've had 1.2 skinks living together with no problem and Ive had 1.1 skinks who were hell bent on destroying each other. Then Ive changed females and no more fights. Why? Who knows.
If your group is getting along thats wonderful. And I agree you shouldnt have any problem spotting the super snow :)
You may very well know what eggs came from what female. The eggs are visible in the female if you take a lookie. So if you keep track of who's gravid you will probably be able to figure out who dropped what eggs and when. Plus if you use more than one nest box you may find that certain females prefer a certain nest box for whatever reason. Unless of course you get two females who decide to go at the same time in the same box then you gotta wait and see. Which is fun! :wamma:

Thanks again Varanus, great info. I didn't think to just keep an eye out for the gravid girls, but it's a great idea.
