View Full Version : Dont tread on me!!
Southern Wolf 07-08-2009, 01:00 AM And I aint kiddin.
These guys pack a nice whollop. I found out the hard way.... funny thing is... I didnt even know it was there till it set my world on fire.
Tonight I was cuttin the grass (much cooler after dark... and my mower is rednecked with multiple lights) and apparently I picked this guy up off a tree when I was mowing around them. Dont know when or where... but I do know that I brushed up against it while trying to get ready for a shower.... and that was a bad mistake.
An hour after it lit me up... I still had redness and puffyness at the site.
Dont Tread On Me!!!

danged if I know
beclende 07-08-2009, 01:39 AM :lmao: Hey at least it wasn't a giant spider!
Sorry Kevin. Those things pack a powerful punch ... I have seen a white one and black ones but never a green one . Wonder if they are all the same thing .
The white and the black both sting as well .
My son spent all day every day when he was a mere toddler study the insects . I bought him college level books and once he brought one in the house and I freaked out and told him to give it to me I was going to flush it.....terrible I know....he pretended that he threw it outside and instead hid the thing under his shirt....bad move . It stung him several times .
Will have to go over and check around the bases of the pecan trees . They liked to live there for some reason .
We have a couple catalpa trees also but that is a different story . Got any catalpa pix ?
Toni

Never knew they could sting you. Hope you feel better soon.
FloridaHogs 07-08-2009, 09:11 AM Kevin, what are rambling on about a silly little ole catapillar????
Remember those as a kid...use to infest cedar and sycamore trees....pack quite a wallop.
Mrs. Sputnik 07-08-2009, 10:38 AM I remember those at my Grandmas house.....always in the trees every summer & her saying leave them alone but we were kids
Got bites every time & I wish I could remember the "ointment" she would put on

Pretty cool find though man. There are alot of cattipillars out there that release a toxin as a defense.Kind of a insurance to make sure they make it past the larval stage etc.
Now go out and catch some T's.:greenman:
nwheat 07-08-2009, 03:02 PM It is beautiful - sorry it caused so much pain!
