I'm new to leos and I'm trying to figure out the genes. In boas a hypo is genetic and you either see it in a baby or you don't.

Is hypo "line-bred" in leos and not genetic in the sense that hypo is in a boa?

IF that is the case, what do you put into the geneticswizard, to figure out the outcome of a breeding, or don't you?

Anyone know of a good list of leo genetic and their description?

Thanks,
Sid

Hypo is indeed line bred in geckos and not genetic.

I dont think you could really put hypo into the genetics wizard since its not really a "trait" so to speak.

So if you had a gecko that was a really nice hypo or super hypo (no dots at all or very little) and you bred it to a normal gecko what you get could vary quite a bit. You could get some level of hypo or no hypo at all. But you most likely would not get a hypo as nice as the parent unless it was bred to a similar quality specimen.

But that little gecko would carry some hypo in its lineage. So if down the road one of those normal looking guys was bred to a super hypo you would probably get better results than if it was bred to a gecko with no hypo in its lineage at all. But again, its going to vary and pretty much impossible to predict.

Plus, you wont really know what you have until the gecko gets a bit older. Their colors and patterns change quite a bit. I hatched some tangerine carrot tails that barely look like anything when they hatch and a couple months later their colors come in and carrot tails pop out. And by the same token, Ive hatched what I thought were going to be nice hypos and then whammo here comes the pattern! Kinda like a box a chocolates..you never know awww you know the rest :)
