None of them were very prepared for it, not to mention that Trey looked way to nervous to be speaking to the camera with all the repeating.

On the brighter side - Prehistoric Pets had no shortage of people ready to get that burmese python draped over their necks for photos at the fair today. :cool: And yes there was lots of chatter about the snake that killed the girl around their exhibit.

They should've gotten someone like Greg Graziani or Eugene Bessette on there to talk about the issues... For one, they're both in Florida where the burm issues are... and two, they have a longer history in the hobby and are very well respected.

Unfortunatly thats exactly why they did'nt want them. They dont want people that will represent us well. I live in FL and the day of the "attack" the news turned down an interview with Rick Brown, our resident herp guy for the Florida Wildlife Conservation Comission who has been on the for front of helping responsible keppers keep their rights for over a decade. They turned him down because they had an interview with a pet shop employee :eek:

I think Fox news should have contacted David Barker or Bob Clark if they wanted to know about Big snakes and the bann.

These two would have represented the Hobby so well in an interview.

I guess everyone feels at one of the biggest media spotlights, we should of had someone speaking with confidence and give strong points on our hobby and what he does. He just gave out information that looked like it made people gringe on TV, and say "ILL", He owns that many snakes."

But in all honesty I give him credit for doing that interview. I would have been scared and probably spoke just like him.:rolleyes:

My bad! Trey is probably an awesome guy. Talking in front of millions of viewers is pretty intimidating I'm sure. I just hate Fox, they are so one sided.

I agree no need to attack Trey. I do however wish he'd been more on the offense and that if he were going to talk about cool colors and designs he would have chosen something other than a normal and an albino to hold. :dunno::lmao:

Youknow when someone asks if the snake could hurt you - you don't say "no" - you say something in the lines of a bite from this type of snake is very rare, if it were to bite you it'd be no worse than a bite from a cat and far less than any dog bite." Kind of deal - you don't leave it open ended where they can spin it.

I agree Alicia, that was unfortunate.
I didn't really feel like him being there did any good to the hobby, but he was probably nervous and let the FOX guys talk about things they obviously know nothing about and get away with it. Bad thing is they have a big audience that probably knows nothing either... and then that spirals into laws being passed.

its just like... if you know you are nervous... you probably shouldnt talk to the media about these animals. not without some serious preparation if youve never done it before. I dont mean it in a bad way, but our hobby does not need THAT kind of press.

I mean heck, i did a presentation for a few nights for some boy scouts, teaching them about the reptiles i keep, and various others so they could earn a badge for it, and its really hard to Combat the misconceptions ( questions they ask, like "is it poisonous?") while also trying to educate in such a short amount of time, not to mention with onlooking parents who may be more afraid, than interested like their children, it just makes a person nervous. Its something you really do need to be prepared for, and build up to and you HAVE to be assertive with your information, or people, like in this clip, will walk all over you.

I make it a habit to speak over people, and keep going when im interrupted because MY information needs to get out first. Questions and assumptions can be dealt with later when i can gather up all the info into one amount of time and answer it accordingly. That news reporter should not have gotten away with that. ( I think everyone should write them and complain, personally.... )

So many people base their responses to these animals based purely on fear, and wont listen to reason, you have to be smarter than them, and you must appear professional.

I think the point he was getting at is that if the ban passes, and all trading/selling/transporting of pythons is made illegal, he wouldn't be able to afford to keep them. If it's illegal to pass them on to someone else and you can't afford to feed them, it's either let them starve or put them down.

Actually, they cut Trey off - the rest of what he said was "or keep them all as pets". Trey would not put his snakes down. He happens to be local to me and a very dear friend.

In his defense, they called him the day before the interview and asked him if he'd do it. I agree, he probably should have been better prepared, but he did try to anticipate the questions - they did a good job of interrupting him and guiding the interview the way they wanted it to go.

hind site is always 20/20/...Yes Trey could have been better versed and instead of responding he could have promoted the positives..Such as the size of Balls and there general disposition... just my 2 cents

I agree and it is not as easy as everyone thinks once they have the cameras and everything shoved all in your face. doing a youtube video or something is nothing compared to do a live news show.

Just wanted to add that what most were seeing as hesitation in his responses could very well have been feed delay. I don't know if he was on site with the anchors or if it was remote, but if it was a remote interview there is a small delay between when they ask the questions and when he was actually hearing them.

this kinda stuff really pisses me off. these poeple at Fox news are beyond clueless and make it sound like you would have to be crazy to own a snake. Im glad I am raising my kids to respect and understand reptiles and other animals rather than feer them.
