I threw this up on ol' bp.net and figured I'd share it with you guys as well.

I used to use the Paintball tank method. As my rat production increased, so did my demand for CO2. I found myself having to drive a fair ways to get my CO2 every few weeks, and alot of the time my supplier's fill station was "out of order" aka too lazy to go get the full tank from the warehouse. So I went to my local farm store (TSC), and got a 20lb CO2/Argon tank used for welding. I had to buy a regulator for argon, and an adapter to be put on the regulator to allow me to attach it to the CO2 tank. I then attached a 1/4" (inside diameter) piece of vinyl tubing to the barb on the regular and run it into a trash can. If you use a trash can make sure you have a thin layer of bedding (I use pine) on the bottle to catch all the mess.

Regulator - $50
Argon-CO2 Adapter - $10
CO2 Tank (empty) - $255
Cost to fill tank - $35
Total: $350

Yes I know, very pricey, however, at any time I can return the tank to the store for a full refund. The $255 is really just a deposit of sorts, but they charge so much so you CAN keep the tank if you want to.

And there you have it! Thanks for looking!

Thanks for the plans, been meaning to set something up here and this will just light the fire.

Do you waste much of the gas with the bigger container?

How the hell do you think we do it now...

Problem is when you freeze them, co2 makes for much better ratcubes for your friends drinks.

Looking good brother.. I've never used a regulator on my tank, just lay that puppy wide open for about 15sec....

I have the same setup, and love it. It is nice with the regulator, because you can put them to sleep before killing them. The nice thing about mine is a buddy hooked me up with the setup for free. He works at a gas plant.

We just use dry ice or the whack em method

You can get a adapter to go from the tank straight to a hose but dont go ask for it unless you know someone there or they wont sell it to you! I found if you use a heavy trash bag inside of the can, dump the rats in, stick hose in and twist top, crack the valve to fill the bagand shut it off and they are dead pretty much in seconds. Leave the bag twisted for a few minutes to make sure. Remove and allow to cool before going in the freezer for best results.....

How long would one of those tanks last before you have to refill it?

And would you be better off using a smaller container (lets say your only gonna freeze 15-20 pinks)?

Do you have to seal the container or is C02 heavier than air?

I suspect that this tank will last close to a year, under heavy use. If you need to kill 15-20 pinkies, the best way is to just put them straight in the freezer, they die much quicker that way. CO2 is heavier than air and there is no sealing required.

If you wanna make one a little smaller, check out my thread (http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showthread.php?t=55509) over on bp.net.

thanks for the link. I prob wont need a huge container... I doubt I will ever have to do more than 20 individuals at a time.

What about using a plastic container of some sort... and lining the bottom with newspapers... then after use just throw away the papers. Would that work ok?

Sure would. Back when I used my small chamber, I lined it with paper towels before doing a kill. Now with the trash can I just cover the bottom with some pine.
